Highly regarded as one of the most influential jazz records of all time, John Coltrane's Giant Steps marked the prolific artist's first Atlantic Records release as a band leader. Coltrane started sessions for his first Atlantic album right after playing on Miles Davis's masterpiece, Kind of Blue. Released in early 1960, Giant Stepsintroduced the "Coltrane Changes," a revolutionary approach to chords still studied today. From the tenderness of "Naima" to the hard swing of "Mr. P.C.," the album captures his blend of precision and lyricism. Inducted into the GRAMMY ® Hall of Fame in 2001, Giant Stepsis one of jazz's most influential albums.
This new breakout mono LP will follow the release of the Rhino High-Fidelity box set titled John Coltrane: 1960-1964 — where all lacquers are AAA cut directly from the mono tapes by Kevin Gray and pressed on 180-gram vinyl by Optimal, with meticulous detailing on the album packaging that includes glossy covers and "tip-on" jackets.
